Fed Ex Kinkos SUCKS ASS (A rant)

This is why corporate mergers suck: Because you take two previously well-run companies, kowtow to the bottom line, and suddenly the both suck.

I used to love Kinko’s. I used to love how easy they made it to hang out and make copies of ‘zines at 3 AM. Now their copy machines no longer make decent copies, they have no one around to assist you when the machines break down, and they don’t even provide saddle staplers anymore.

Fed Ex USED to be the reliable delivery company, which was a nice change from the USPS. Since the merger, they too have allowed their services to go downhill. Recently, very sweetly tried to mail a bottle of wine as a gift to our new condo. That was on OCTOBER 23rd. They claim to have made three attempts, yet we only got one door tag. They deleted our name and our apartment number from the delivery information TWICE, making delivery impossible TWICE. And then, when we scheduled delivery for 10 AM to noon on Monday morning, they show up at SEVEN FUCKING PM and inform us that the package was refused.

UPS managed to deliver our patio furniture from Target.com just fine, but Fed Ex can’t deliver a fucking bottle of wine? Maybe if they pulled their heads out of their asses long enough to see the road, they’d find that would work better.

Incidentally, I’m not the only one who thinks this Fed Ex office sucks.

  1. You should look back to, like, a year ago, and see ‘s long rant about some awful Fedex services.

  2. I think a lot of it depends on the employees. Right before the wedding there was one Kinkos person at one store who was very helpful and the rest were just tools.

Kinkos had stopped providing the saddle staplers, nice paper cutters, etc. before they merged with Fed/Ex, at least here locally.

And I’ve got my issues with UPS. If their local distribution center weren’t very close to my house a lot of packages they had of mine would never had made it to me, I actually had to go pick them up. No real experience with Fed/Ex, outside of shipping stuff for work, though, so I can’t compare.

  3. enough said fedex just suck really bad now

  4. Fed Ex Kinkos sucks ass… I have never faxed anything in my life, but thats besides the point. I bought some shit from Brain Research Lab shipped back as a return with USPS and a month later they never received it in their computer system. The customer service agent told me about faxing with kinkos. I went over to Fedex Kinkos today to fax the shipping receipt without knowing what I was doing. I tried asking a customer service rep. for assistance. To his suRprise I have never faxed anything before in my life. This customer service rep. was disgusting, impolite, and would mutter something silently to himself possibly about me, because of the fact that he had to help me. In the time I tried figuring out what to do on my own, this guy sat AT his little desk next to the front counter browsing the internet. The guy did not like helping me and I had no problem with that, but I did have a problem with his personality and lack of helpfulness. There was no one else around and this guy just got so pissed off, because he had to help me. He made a copy of my receipt and then gave me a card to put credit on it, because my master card was not able to be read by their card readers. When I was finished making the fax I headed towards the door. This guy screams across the room without any consideration for the other customers,”So you know how to make a fax the next time you come in right”. I stormed out thinking to myself, “What an ass”. I thought, “Why would anyone put up with this kind of behavior from kinkos worker’s”. I do not really need to go back there ever again. I could do this at school if I needed to. I went to FedEx Kinkos, because of its convenient location.

    • the directions for the fax machine pop up when you put your card in, so i understand why he thought you were an idiot

      • Did you really just come over here to someone’s private blog to insult someone? Are you an oversensitive Fed Ex/Kinko’s employee or something? Play nice, please.

Incidentally, this post was written four years ago, yet it still keeps popping up on my “most viewed” list because apparently a lot of people are googling reasons why this company sucks. And it still does. Fed Ex just recently took four attempts to deliver a package because the FIRST time they came they refused to actually open the door and deliver it. They rang, the door was answered, they said “I’m leaving” and never left it. Now THAT’S crappy service.

  5. Yes it is true they suck ass. I am a former employee who worked for the company through the transition for over 16 years. They no longer care about the employees.

  6. FedEx Office sucks….. The UPS Store and the small copy shops are the way to go now.
FedEx office has rude employees, they charge too much, and there machines are crap anyway.
Their to big, and it’s time to go elsewhere.

  7. you know.. As a FedEx Kinko’s employee, I’m sorry you all had to deal with underqualified employees. It would help greatly if they hired people that actually had previous printing experience, and could actually help customers with their jobs, but in my store, I’m one of just 3 of us with any printing experience at all and one person only has it just because she’s been there 13 years.
While the company should be hiring more knowledgeable employees, you customers aren’t a bed of roses either!
I understand you’ve never used a fax and we’re always glad to show you how to do it, but also, pay attention to the signage on the equipment.. there are FULL instructions on how to use each of these devices on printed labels stuck to each machine. Prices are also listed..but nobody bothers to actually read them! Instead, we’re expected to hold your hand through the entire process.. which is fine the FIRST time around.. it loses its novelty when you’re coming in EVERY WEEK and still can’t do it by yourself.
Another thing is, our prices are set by corporate and we have no authority to issue discounts. Even the center managers can’t do any more than 20% and it has to be justified to corporate. The same is true for FedEx. No, I can’t explain why the price is so high and no, getting angry and being rude to me will not reduce your price.
So.. haggling over prices we cannot change with 5 other customers in line behind you will not get you anywhere.
We, like all businesses, have policies. these policies are in place for a reason and even though your mommy says you’re special, we cannot make an exception just for you.. even if you “do this all the time and it’s never been a problem (that’s a LIE)” or “I was able to do this LAST TIME!” well, if one of our employees has bent the rules for you, they shouldn’t have and it’s YOU who sucks for asking them to jeopardize their jobs just so you can have your way.
You see.. while most negative customer service issues may be rooted in the employee’s lack of qualification and experience required for the position, there are a great deal of these negative experiences which could be attributed to the customers’ lack of patience, lack of planning and lack of manners. Example: GET OFF YOUR PHONE WHEN YOU GET TO THE COUNTER!!!
Tirades and tantrums are not the way to get what you want. You should have learned that in grade school.
I hope your future customer service experiences at our company are better.. we’re not all under qualified tools!

  9. Fedex/Kinkos is not fedex – Do not make this mistake. I know now where the postal workers are going as the USPO cuts staff. They are now Fedex/Kinkos emplyees.
Still running at half speed, still roll the eyes when you ask if other idle “team members” might be available to process “ready to go” packages…. Kinkos/fedex locations pack boxes (slowly and poorly) “while you wait” for $5.
Unfortunately its not just one person waiting…..it’s the whole line ! Now who came up with this plan?

  10. Unfortunately, over-the-top customer service has entered the realm of the untouchable, golden heaven that no employee dare penetrate.
It’s really funny that many customers know this (which they think gives them the right tobe completely unreasonable), but they don’t know how to get on the Internet, fax, scan, or do anything that the average joe on the street NOW KNOWS HOW TO DO in our modern age. The reason FXO has a self-service area is because it’s SELF-SERVICE. Like Diana above said, instructions are clearly posted at every computer, every copier, every fax machine. There are even overhead signs telling the customer where things are, but does anybody bother to look up–or even read? No, because they’re lazy and want to be babied through whatever process they’re (not) attempting to accomplish.
Customers take plenty of time to scream, yell, and whine at the counter about whatever, and they call the FXO customer service line to complain, but they rarely TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN HOW TO DO ANYTHING with regard to helping themselves. So, because they’re truly ignorant or lazy or just plain mean, they blame the employees. Good job.

Oh, and by the way–copyright law covers everyone. YOU are not special because your daughter just won a beauty pageant and you want to make a poster with a COPYRIGHTED picture, taken by a professional, and you don’t realize you need permission. FXO does not make copyright law, but they have to abide by it. So don’t get mad when an employee can’t print your architectural plans, professional photos, pages out of books, newspaper articles, etc. etc. etc. without permission from the creator.

Also, GET OFF YOUR PHONE when you come to the counter. Do you even realize how ridiculous and rude you look when you come up to the counter yakking on your phone while simultaneously demanding service?

It’s no wonder FXO is always short-staffed and the employees look harried. The production people can’t get much production done when they’re out in the self-service area providing what amounts to full service, and to top it off, FXO doesn’t back up the employees at all. It’s a customer world and we just suffer in it.

Lastly, there are plenty of great customers that come into FXO. Those people are cool, calm, have their ducks in a row and are prepared. Thank goodness for them.
