Good news keeps coming…

Life is so weird.  I must mail out three or four submissions every month, and can go months without hearing back from anyone. Half the time the submission are returned because the magazine folded. Other times, they send an impersonal, form rejection letter. Then, within two days, I hear from two magazines, and they both want to publish one of my poems. This one, a very cool literary ‘zine put out by a woman in New Zealand, wants to publish a poem some of you may be familiar with, “Election Year.”  A timely publication, no? Here it is:

Election year

Pending publication in Woven, 2004

The politicians talk on T.V.
of class warfare
trying desperately to woo the
undecided middle class.
The real class warfare begins here:
Two girls on the T discussing
their great disdain for the
neighborhood at the
end of the line
where they keep the people
in housing projects.
And, this morning,
the impatience on the faces
of the commuters waiting
behind the man with tattered
belongings collected into
a suitcase
because it is all he owns.

  1. oh, moira! i love her distro! hooray for you! i can’t wait to read it.

  2. You know her? So crazy….

  3. well “know” her in the sense that once i ordered a zine from her which, incidentally, was put out by a woman one town over for me (but moira’s distro was the only one left i think anywhere that had it). i’m excited for you, i didn’t know moira did a lit magazine (i don’t know what else to call it? lit magazine?)…how did you find out about it?

    i think she’s on livejournal as well…

  4. how did find out about her? A good question. I’m not sure. It might have been in the lj community of writerly, actually. It wasn’t in Poet’s Market, I just checked.
