This makes it harder to move back

I was really holding out hope for Washington state to become just the second state in the country to grant full civil rights to same-sex couples. I really thought there was a good chance they would do it, and they almost did. But by a 5-4 vote, the Washington state Supreme Court has struck down 19 same-sex couples’ bid to be treated the same as heterosexual couples. One fucking justice away.

It may seem petty, but it really does make it harder to want to move back to the Pacific Northwest, despite all the close friends and family we have there. We’d be throwing away our marriage license, and relegating ourselves to being second class citizens again.

  1. Last time I checked, Vancouver, BC was in the Pacific Northwest…

Of course, they don’t have the First Amendment, which has always been a deal-breaker for me. But I might just get over that Real Soon Now.

  3. We’ve talked about moving to Canada…Vancouver B.C. has a lot of appeal. But yeah, Dworkin and MacKinnon made Canada’s lack of a First Amendment a little scary…then again, our own First Amendment is pretty well eroded at this point…

  4. I was also very hopeful..

For the Northwest, for the possibility of you all moving back, for what it would mean for our country, since they have no residency requirement. I cried just a little when I heard the news in the shower in the morning. So, I don’t think are being petty, unfortunately.
