Holy shit

Ann Richards has died.

I feel like a piece of my Texas soul just died with her. Seriously. I always tell people, who often look pissed off at me when I tell them I’m from Texas, as if I’m personally responsible for George W. Bush, that when I left Texas, it was still in reasonably good hands. Ann Richards was governor. It was still a Dixiecrat state, with reasonably progressive (in a libertarian, live and live kinda way) attitude toward the world.

Sometime after I left, it descended into a fascist pit of George W. Bush and company.

I’m sad. Which is weird, because I don’t know her personally, and I haven’t lived there for years. But I am.

  1. I’m sad too, and I never even lived there.

The NYTimes had a very nice editorial about her in the paper today. If I had more time, I’d track it down on line and link to it. But, instead, I’m off to bed.
