The struggle continues

Two stories caught my eye this morning:

1. The saga that’s been ongoing this past week over the efforts to hold a Gay Pride parade in Jerusalem. Ironically, Muslims and Christians and Jews will all kill each other, unless it there’s an opportunity to bash the queers. Then suddenly they’re all best friends. This just breaks my heart.

2. Mexico City passed a law approving civil unions for same-sex couples. Mexico City! 90% Catholic Mexico City! They seem to have a better grasp of the concept of separation of church and state than we do.

  1. It’s sad how hatred can unite people.

Itai posted a report and some photos from the event they held instead of the parade on his lj. I don’t know how to make a link to him in a comment, but his username is nir1. The photos are terrific, and his report sounds much more hopeful than what we’ve been hearing on the news.

  2. He’s on my friends list – I love his blog.

  3. Mexico City is 90% Catholic, but there’s only a 10% chance of that.
You know, like how in Amsterdam weed is legal, but it aint’t a hundred percent legal.

Doesn’t it seem fucked up that hate has such an easy appeal to so many people? Like, maybe this life is a test. Ice cream tastes good, broccoli tastes bad. Hate is easy and selfless love is hard.

I’m this close to becoming a Gnostic. You still sticking with the Judaism bit?
