Vicky Christina Barcelona

Vicky Christina Barcelona is the first Woody Allen movie I’ve loved in a long time, especially one of his comedies. Crimes and Misdemeanors — one of his best ever, IMO — was the last Allen movie where I felt like I related to the characters. It’s back to that genre only Allen can do well: neurotic women. Well, Allen and Almodovar.

Anyway, the basic theme I left the movie with is this: There are two choices for most women today – settle, or remain searching. To which my beloved responded, after I presented her with this summation, by saying, “So no one’s ever happy?”

To which I responded by saying, without missing a beat, “Well, that’s very Woody Allen, isn’t it?”

Go see the movie. It’s really good.
