Day 6

Again with the close deadline.

I’m up late waiting for my granola to finish baking and we just watched the first Daily Show of the new year. It’s all about candidates jostling for the 2016 election, where it looks like barring a major upset we can expect Bush III versus Clinton II. Depressing.

Then Steven Brill was the guest, continuing to try and remind us that getting more people access was only the first part of the plan to reform our fucked up health care system. For it to be a success and sustainable, we have to push on with part two – regulating the costs of the health care goods and services themselves.

But doing anything in this country – reforming the role of money in politics so we can have more interesting, viable candidates, of reforming the largest industry in our country – requires us to have grownups in charge, instead of a bunch of toddlers arguing.

Meanwhile, black men are dying from an unreformed, racist justice system. And women are raped and beaten and their abusers are rarely, if ever punished. But carry on with business as usual.

Some days I hate humanity.

I think I just need to go to bed.
