Day 104, 30 day poem challenge day 14

Prompt: Reinterpret yesterday’s poem without the constraints of form

How to Survive American Politics: A Memo to Myself

We lament our impotence
We have failed
We have grown accustomed
to the Dark
The dream is alive
Hope and change
Si se puede
What if we can’t?
What if this is the best we can do?
Still,
my heart is full with friends
I will strive to love the stranger who is myself.
It is the responsibility of the poet to be a woman.
It is my responsibility to keep trying
but only the things I can change.
